Ingredients:
4 c. warm water
1/4 c. dry yeast
1 c., 2 Tbs. sugar
3 sticks of margarine
4 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 Tbs. salt
6 1/2 c. flour
oil or lard for deep frying

Directions:
Combine warm water with yeast and 2 Tbs. of sugar. Set aside and cream together margarine and 1 c. sugar. Add eggs and beat well, then add vanilla and salt. Combine yeast mixture, creamed mixture, and flour. Beat until batter becomes elastic, or beat into a thick consistency. Knead on a floured board until it is smooth. Let dough rise to double in size in a warm, draft-free place. Roll out dough until it is 1/2 in. thick, then use doughnut cutter. Fry in deep fat fryer or electric skillet. Let doughnuts drain on paper towel, then dip in maple glaze.
